Faith Works | Week 6
A constant reminder must always be with us as we read scripture. Every portion was written to or about a specific people. When we understand that it helps us to steer clear of unintended misunderstandings. So, I remind us again that James has given us the primary audience of his letter. James 1:1 NKJV - (1) James, a bondservant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad: Greetings. Remember, these twelve tribes scattered abroad, many times, were taken away from their home against their desires. They now resided in places that they were foreigners, strangers, aliens and outsiders. Much the same way those that have chosen to follow Jesus are in this world. Philippians 3:20 NKJV - (20) For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
The letter of James has been called, by many, the Proverbs of the New Testament. Many times James gives us wise instruction to live by much the same way Proverbs does. So it may seem that James’ thoughts are scattered. It appears that he jumps from subject to subject. But James, is giving his readers instruction in truth. The things he shares with us are things that we can walk out in life. There is a happiness that comes to our soul when we live out the commandments and instructions of Scripture. Today’s text is no different.
