Having an "I Can" Mindset
Having an "I Can" Mindset means acknowledging you have room for spiritual progress. Apostle Paul was one of the greatest advocates for Jesus, but he was very transparent about the fact that he was not perfect and that quitting was not an option (vs. 12)
Having an "I Can" Mindset means pressing forward. Paul compares the Christian life to running a race. Athletes are familiar with the concept of pressing forward. We can't finish the race in our own strength, however. We must rely on God's strength.
Having an "I Can" Mindset means leaving the past behind. Paul paints a picture of his one pursuit with two parallel clauses: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead. You cannot move forward if you are looking behind. We must continue to lay aside anything that hinders us from knowing Jesus and growing spiritually. The past can be heavy, but it's never more than Jesus can carry.
Having an "I Can" Mindset means seeking the prize. The prize being with Jesus forever (vs 14). We are not done with our race until we are in His presence. Seek Him and throw away anything that is keeping you from knowing Him intimately.
