Having a "Stand Firm" Mindset

Oct 15, 2023    Randall Waller

Philippians 4:1 says we need to stand firm in the Lord. A true follower of Christ can stand firm because we know there is a place we belong. Philippians 3:20 says "But our citizenship is in heaven...". In addition to knowing there is a place where we belong, a true follower of Christ can also stand firm because there is a person who is coming for us at any moment and there is a promise of what we are going to become. When we see Jesus, there will be no more cancer or hurt from sin. What a blessing it is to know that this world is not our home.

Having a "Stand Firm" Mindset means we remain standing no matter what is going on around us. Paul said to stand firm in the Lord as a command. We see this also in Phil. 1:27 where Paul says to stand firm in one spirit and with one mind. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are to be striving together in gospel ministry. The enemy has always uses church against the church, which leads us to Pastor Randall’s next point.

Having a "Stand Firm" Mindset means we do our part to be a unified church with a spirit of oneness. Having this mindset also means being determined to be like-minded for the gospel over our own agendas. May this message encourage you this week to fight division in the church and to endeavor to make a difference by being peacemakers and seeking unity.

Having a "Stand Firm" Mindset means knowing as co-laborers in Christ that God has a book. To think about the book of life is not a fearful thing to think about the book of life, but it is life-giving. The names written in this book are of those that are truly followers of Christ and standing in the Lord. It is heartbreaking for those who do not know Jesus, and believers should be broken over the names not written down.

Paul says in Phil. 4:4 to “Rejoice in the Lord always…” right after talking about the book of life. Having a “Stand Firm” Mindset means always rejoicing. Choosing to rejoice in Him is a powerful weapon.
